Application 1: Identifying letters and numbers with image processing
One of the important applications of image processing is character and number recognition or OCR. OCR stands for Optical Character Reader. With the help of OCR, letters can be recognized by image processing. OCR is used in many cases. As an example, one of the cases of using recognition of letters and numbers in machine vision is checking the accuracy of printing expiration dates on various products. In other words, we check whether the expiration date printed on the product is legible or not.
Application 2: Barcode reading
In machine vision, barcodes are automatically read by a camera and image processing at high speed. By using barcode reading with image processing, we can identify hundreds of thousands of products produced during the day. Using this identification, we can count, track and inspect the products.

Application 3: Dimensional measurement with image processing
Dimensional measurement is one of the important applications of image processing in machine vision, which has many uses. Dimensional measurements can be taken during the production of parts. In this way, we can control the length, width, radius, etc. in the produced part and if they exceed the tolerance, we can remove the part from the line.

Application 4: Checking the print accuracy
First-class brands attach great importance to the packaging of their products. Therefore, the quality of printing on products is very important for printing factories. Today, printing quality control is checked automatically in factories. Checking the accuracy of printing is one of the important applications of image processing. This check is done by comparing the printed with the healthy print, and if an error is detected, the defective prints are separated from the healthy ones.
Application 5: Location identification
Finding objects in the image can be done with different purposes such as checking the object, measuring, counting, being healthy, etc. As an example, one of the applications of position identification is to announce the coordinates of the part to the robot. in which we find the position of the object by processing the image. Then we give this position to the robot to pick it up. For example, in the image below, the product is detected by the camera and its coordinates are given to the robot. Then the robot picks up the product and puts it in the carton.
Application 6: Identifying defects of different products with image processing
Identifying the defects of different products is another application of image processing in machine vision. By using image processing in machine vision, it is possible to detect the defects of different products and to control the quality of different products automatically.Let’s do one and in case of defects in the products, automatically separate them from other products. Quality control is used in all industries. For example, in the pharmaceutical industry, we can make sure that the pills inside an envelope are not empty or broken, or in the food industry, we can check whether the lid of a bottle is closed.
Application 7: motion detection and tracking
Moving objects can be identified by using image processing. As you can see in the picture, the tracking of the motor movement is done by image processing and its position is determined in the picture. This application of image processing can also be used in making games, which is shown as an example of a human-robot tennis game in the video above. In this game, tracking the movement of the ball is done by image processing, thus the robot will be able to hit the ball by identifying its position.
